Rationale/ Salient Characteristics
The use of the monitoring system requires the use of their proprietary software called Labchart 8. The SPR-1000 is an ultra-miniature Pressure Catheter (0.8F Polyimide) with a single 1F pressure sensor side mounted at the tip and is suitable for use in mice. The catheter has a straight tip, is flexible and has a catheter body narrower than the tip sensor providing minimal obstruction of vessels or valves with an effective length of 41 cm. The catheter uses a low-profile connector and therefore requires an AEC-10D Catheter Interface Cable for connection to any ADInstruments Bridge Amps. The SPR-1000 is reusable but NOT repairable. The AEC-10D Mikro-Tip Catheter Interface Cable, 3m (10 ft) allows connection of Millar Mikro-Tip catheters with low-profile connectors to any ADInstruments Bridge Amps. All other accessories identified in the description of requirements must use AD instrument products and cannot interchange with non-AD instrument items.
Single-Sole Source Determination
Agency excess and the National Institute of Health Supply Center was explored and they do not sell the pressure monitoring system. A GSA market research was conducted and yielded no interested offeror. Ability One and Unicor does not currently sell medical products. Based on contract specialist knowledge, ADInstruments is the only known manufacturer, to date, who makes intracranial pressure monitoring system that is approved and suitable for use during research studies.
Background/Description of Requirement

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is part of the NIH and researches the causes, treatment, and prevention of neurological disorders and stroke. Its mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease.

This acquisition is to purchase the Intracranial Pressure monitoring System for the Neurovascular Research Unit (NVR). The system will provide the lab with multichannel recording and display features and functions.
